TheLeadFlatpick Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 How many guitars have you owned? I apologize if this is inappropriate or if its already been done, but I thought this could be a very interesting topic. Acoustic, electric, brand, quality, or how long you owned them doesn’t matter, and a rough estimate is fine. If you want you can also say how many you currently own, or how many Gibsons you’ve owned, thats fine, or maybe separate topics might be needed if this thread gets too crowded😁. I thought it would be interesting to know as so many here are so many experts on guitars here, that I wonder how many they’ve owned to acquire such knowledge. I know thats not the only factor in learning alot about guitars, but I would think it helps( at least its helped me). Also it would be a chance for some to brag if they so desired😜. Looking forward to some replies.
brad1 Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 I have 17 total. That is the most I have ever owned. I just began playing in 2006. 13 electric, 2 bass guitars, 2 acoustic. But I'm getting ready to sell one or two electrics soon. I have 2 drums sets also. One electric and one acoustic.
TheLeadFlatpick Posted June 21, 2019 Author Posted June 21, 2019 Thanks for the post! I have 9 guitars right now, but I buy sell and guitars so much IDK how many is the most I’ve had at one time. I have 2 electrics, and 7 acoustics, two of which are Gibsons. I sat down yesterday and tried to write down how many guitars Ive ever owned and I remembered 35 of them. Ive been playing for 4 years now, no signs of stopping!
Dave F Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 27 Gibsons 8 Martins 7 Various models then a slew of ukes and mandolins

Wow, to think Ive only had four, and one was fake😋shows how outranked my Gibson knowledge is. Did I mention that 2 out of the 3 I bought were damaged? I blame half of it on me being cheap, the other half on the fold-o-matic headstock. Good thing they sound like a million bucks!

I've probably sold about 30.
Retired Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Off hand, I can think of 20 total guitars and one banjo. I've had 3, 12 sting acoustics, 3, 6 string acoustics, only 2 weren't electric. One steel guitar. Currently I have 8 with a 12 string Yamaha, a Oscar Schmidt 6 string acoustic a 6 string Ovation Celebrity with a Koa top, A Gibson Standard Gold Top, being the only Gibson I've ever owned. I have 3 Epiphone's, Ones a Standard black with white trim, Ones a Limited Edition Pelham blue Custom Pro, and I recently bought a Casino Coupe with P-90's, The other 2 are a Stream Liner Gretsch and a Squire Vintage Modified Jaguar. 2 amps, a Fender Mustang ll and a Fender Super Champ X2 tube amp and 5 pedals.
Larsongs Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 I've owned between 50-60 over the course of my life.. Two I should never have got rid of were a 50's Gibson Les Paul Jr. with a P90 & a 1959 Gibson ES345 with real PAF's... I didn't know what I had.. Although, I'm happy to say I have a few great Gibsons & Epis... As well as some other Makers....

You asked something you cant answer yourself? 😮 Only played for 4 years but lost track of how many guitars!? 🤣 I've had 22 guitars over 49 years (24 if basses included).
pippy Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 As a young kid (around 7 /8 y) I picked up my dad's 1890's bowl-back Neapolitan mandolin and liked it which led, eventually, to my going down the guitar route. Owned somewhere between 30 and 35 at a rough guess. Some didn't last long - as in a week or two. Others did. Still have the first guitar I ever bought (1975). Only one I now miss is the '64 Strat I bought in Jan '80 and sold 24 years later. Currently have 13 including Dreadnoughts, f-hole arch-top Gypsy-Jazzer, F-hole arch-top 'regular' jazzer and electrics. I am also, happily, the current 'Custodian of the Mandolin'. Pip.
Karloff Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 over the years total - 24 + 3 mandolins. currently - 10 . the one I've had the longest is the '72 Strat I bought in '74.

I cant tell you how many guitars I’ve owned then immediately sold within 2-3 days for a quick profit. Its like house flipping, but with less money involved(for now)
kelly campbell Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 I own 7 Gibson acoustics, 3 Martins, 1 Larrivee and 1 Wechter acoustic. I own 3 Les Pauls. and 1 Strat and 3 epiphone electrics.

'Scales Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 I currently own 3 electrics (which seems at least 1 too many so might give one to my son when he leaves home). I had 2 other electrics when I was a kid, a bass and 2 acoustics over the years all of which are gone now.
Beerad12 Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 I've had 14 guitars since I started playing. I still have all except for a squire strat I trashed when I moved. 8 Gibsons total in the collection.
tx-ogre Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 I currently own 7 electric guitars (5 Gibson’s, a 6 string Ltd and a 7 string Ltd). I also own 3 electric basses (a 6 string Ibanez, a 4 string Ltd and a 4 string Aria Pro II P bass) for a total of 10. This is the most i’ve ever had at one time. I did once own a Gibson Firebird VII, but I needed to upgrade my bass rig and needed to sell a guitar. Since I purchased the Firebird used and had owned it the least amount of time and had not developed the bond with it I had with the others, I ended up selling it.
Twang Gang Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 Not sure I remembered them all, but a fun exercise to go through. I think I have owned a total of 30 over time. I currently have 9 which is as many as I've ever had at one time. The two I gig with now are a 2017 Les Paul Standard, and a 2018 Deluxe Stratocaster.
Navy Vet. Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 I currently own 6, two are Gibson, three are Fender and one Alvarez Dreadnaught. The most I’ve ever owned at one time was 19. As I get older, I don’t want a house full of guitars. I really only play three, My Classic series Telecaster, my Gibson LG-2 and my 2019 Les Paul Jr single cut. I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t care for Strats, and will probably sell the two I have left. I’m not real big on collecting vintage guitars, many people say they sound better, but I have played vintage Fenders from the early sixties to the late sixties that sounded like crap, and some were just unplayable. I played a 1957 Les Paul Jr at Carter's Vintage Guitars and it didn’t sound that great. The best bass I ever owned was an Electra, Fender Jazz copy, Made in Japan. I got it in1974. I wish I never sold it now.
TheLeadFlatpick Posted June 23, 2019 Author Posted June 23, 2019 Quite a few awesome guitars and collections of guitars So far, I wonder if we should have a contest of who has owned the most?🤔JK, though this has inspired me to start a thread on whats the favorite guitar you’ve owned, or maybe the one you most regret not owning
Tekboy Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 I have had a grand total of 27, all with varying lengths of ownership, and quality. Some I bought because of the way they looked, a couple because current custodians were broke, but most because I liked the way they sounded. Five of them were/are Acoustic, including the Hummingbird, and the Fender Catalina that I currently own. Down to two acoustic guitars and one PA system. I have had Gibsons, Fenders, Martins, Ovation, Sigma, and brands not worthy of remembrance.
saturn Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 Currently own 3 guitars. Two Les Pauls, a Studio and R7 Goldtop. And a GRB Kokocaster, which is a copy of a Charvel/Jackson Surfcaster. List of past guitars: No-name Les Paul copy, Epiphone acoustic, Ibanez Super Strat, weird pointy shaped Kramer , Fender Mexi Strat, another LP copy, Gibson SG Classic, Ibanez acoustic, Think that's everything
FemmeParallell Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 I prefer not saying, i dont wanna get in trouble hahaha, but i have the most i ever had in my life, started playing at 13
