June 1954.  A very good year.

Elvis Presley  began his musical career in 1954.  Yeah, I was one year old.  Believe it or not, My Mother told me many times,  her youngest brother, My Uncle Don,  taught me how to play chess, at 3 years old.  As far as I can remember, I played the game of chess my whole life.

Not too many kids who were born in the 70's, 80's, 90's own Gibson's I guess. Just us old guys.

Right or wrong, when you go on sites like Reddit, discussing guitars, the line tossed around about Gibson is that they are really only bought by dentists or accountants who late in life, now have the money to afford one. Bit like Harley Davidsons in that regard I guess. So far, of all the people who have responded in this thread, I am the youngest and at 40, I don't really consider myself young at all. It's a shame that Gibson has gone from having a reputation for fine quality yet affordable instruments are now well into the prestige/boutique section in terms of pricing.

Having said all that, I bought a Jr Special recently for a very affordable and competitive price so hopefully this heralds Gibson getting back into the entry-level area a little more. Think of all those great bands in the 60's and 70's that made Gibson the name it is now; I'm not so sure many of those musicians starting out on their path to stardom would consider a Gibson at today's equivalent prices.

Dentists & Accountants?

No, that's PRS. Those kids are mixed up.

Congrats on the Jr. Gibson regularly bring out affordable blingless guitars. They are great I think because they are still loaded with premium hardware & pickups.

Post a picture or two?

My birth year brother, me too.  Best year for the camaro.

I was given a 67 Camaro by my cousin. It broke down on him once too many times so he said he didn't want it any more. I turned it into a NHRA drag racing car and raced it for 2 years. Then got rid of it and built a 71 Dodge Colt for Pro Gas. Those were the days, In the 60's & 70's.

When I was born, the top hit on the radio was "Lonely Boy" by Paul Anka.

Gasoline cost .30 cents at the pump.

The average cost of a new car when I was born was $2,200 in the US.

And a Gibson Les Paul went for, brand new, $300 or so, depending upon features.

I am told that the the resale value for one of those, nowadays, is just around a half million.

😮
