GOD that's a HELL of a question, Dave!

You asked for it: It would HAVE to be a '59 'Burst with a wide, DEEP flame in the rarest of tobacco burst. But that's ONLY so I could sell it, pay off my house and bills, buy a new caddilac and wardrobe, and buy these:

I can't decide between a few. I go back and forth between archtops. One might be a 50's or so Super 400, and an L-5. Maybe 40's, maybe 60's. I could go for a 40's with PAF's. I know that doesn't add up, but here's the deal: It's like breast implants. No way I could suggest it or want it myself or want to see someone have it done, but if she already has them, I'll take her the way she comes.

Early archtops are the epidomy of everything good about Gibson. Any archtop. But the early ones are rediculas.

But, I have a hard time also not taking a 60's or late 50's ES-345 in vintage sunburst (or whatever that color would be called). A 335 or 355 could stand in for it, but really, the 345 would be the ultimate in class, style, and looks.

Now, if by chance I was able to find a 50's or so ES-350T in a 25 1/2 scale length, (if it exist), with that pretty L-series body in thinline with the pretty shading around the sides like they have, that MIGHT make me forget about the above ones.

Voted flying V cause it's "my" guitar.

Right now I'm GASing for a black V for another customizing project, a Les Paul Traditional in Chicago Blue, an ES137 in blue (saw one in the guitar porn thread; fell in love), a Firebird with 3 mini hums, an ES175 (maybe black), a cherry ES335, and I gotta have an SG at some point, yea.. all of them! [biggrin]

I think anyone here would take a 59 LP and sell it to solve all their financial and gas problems but I mean any new Gibson that would be yours and use as your player. Not a guitar to worship or put on display like a trophy...

We're talking half a million dollars here. Maybe more. Maybe a million, for deep, DEEP wide flame.

But alas, it seems such a cruel fate to relegate such a thing of beauty to such an existance as a display, a 'trophy'. When such a thing made to sing, to be held, be denied the human tough and long to be caressed. Poor guitar. Yea, it's wrong.

I might suggest a different view: I proposed the guitar be given a life of a beauty queen, to do charity work. For a donation, (a LARGE donation), the money used to become a rescue for old archtops that have been decimated with PAF's that weren't born with them.

And also for those obscure, forgotton and left out models, that have never had the love they deserve.

I don't think you seem to get it...the topic clearly states NEW Gibsons, not vintage guitars. You could have a Reissue all you want, or one of the Collector's Choice from the Custom Shop all you want, but by the rules of the thread, vintage guitars are out.

As for mine...I would play a '57 Les Paul Junior RI and a '54 Les Paul Custom RI (with the P90 and Staple pickup) and pick which one I like best. I've never bought a guitar I didn't get to play first...

I think for me a new True Vintage Hummingbird. [biggrin] Never held one in my arms, but I'd imagine it would meet my expectations.

I'd love to have one but have just decided to cut back on any more guitars in the collection till the economy gets better & I get something built on our land in WY. Bad priorities I know, but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!

Well I definatly knew I would want a LP, at the moment I do not own one.I have always wanted a John Sykes reissue but they havent made one in a few years. So for me a 59 reissue is the way to go so why not a Gibson Custom '59 Les Paul Joe Perry TSB Murphy Age

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/59PerryAged I'm usually not a big fan of fake aging but this one looks dam good and probably sounds killer also.

A modified ES175... For the size, shape and feel...

E.g., a pickguard-mounted master volume, a piezo bridge and controls to handle switching stuff around for the output. Heck, I see nothing wrong with basic robot tech or with separate piezos per string, some of the more advanced electronics. Additional controls could be the sort "hidden" by the pickguard.
