With..... Or Without...... That is the question

Without that particular pickguard...but depends on your playing style and whether you rest any part of the hand there, or are likely to nick that nice top with pick or nails......my ideas for a pickguard on this guitar would be tortoiseshell, black, transparent or a fancy wooden job.....

Without, I prefer all of them without but it just isn't always possible.

Pickguards are like putting covers on yer tires while you drive to work. If the thing gets used, it gets beat either a little or a lot. If it doesn't get used, it doesn't need a pickguard.

Yeah im a without guy too... Show that top as much as possible..

But then im also a player who doesn't play in a style where im going to scratch that area up anyway so pickguards are kinda useless to me in that way... And if the top is pretty id want to show it off.

I see salt and pepper on your table so it is the table you eat at.

There is a computer mouse on the table so that is where your computer is.

And,the table is the workbench on guitar wipe down day!

That is the table of a bachelor at peace with himself.

Oh yeah, the pickguard question. I brace my fingers on the pickguard so need it,

But your guitar looks better without it. The question for me would be, "Do you play your guitar, or look at it?"

That is a sweet 335. I usually like guards, but not on that one. Are the pups and guard stock or a mod? Only problem is if you take it off you have a holes where the screws were. I changed the tortoise shell guard on my BB King to black and it look much sharper IMO.

Thanks partner [thumbup] .... The pups and guard are from the factory.... Which is partially what drew me to the instrument....

I'm going to be the 'Difficult' person and say 'With' but not with that 'guard.

It's waayyy too thick.

I'd get a custom-made p'guard to the correct shape but from a sheet of '59 LP-guard-thick plastic with a straight-cut edge profile.

Not 'historically accurate' of course but then; what is? I think it'd look absolutely superb so adorned and that's the end of the matter.

Surely part of the point in owning such a 335 is that it was something which was NOT offered at the time but if they knew then what they know now?....

I'm a pickguard kind of guy. Easier to play.

But unless you are going to just have the guitar to look at, then what matters is how it looks on YOU with or without.

It may seem a little vain, but I think the decision is best made strapped on in front of a mirror. It's your guitar, so it should look good based on what it looks like with you playing it.

I have taken my pickguards off, and prefer the look. However (new-ish) nitro is so susceptible to even a light touch that it can show up where the hand rests etc. This is true for my 339. It has no pickguard as its a studio model and the finish is dull in the pickguard area. I'm sure it would buff up glossy again, but it is affected.

So I have removed the guard from my Epi Casino Coupe (no nitro = no problem).

My 2015 LP's removable pickguard is brilliant because I keep it on for practicing, and remove it when gigging. That is a great design feature!
