duane v
It's guitar wipe down day and I decided to do a little cosmetic experiment to see how my Gibby 335 would look without the pickguard.... I think I like it with but not sure....
Tman
Without, looks like a premium figured top. Show every millimeter.
Dub-T-123
With these two options I'd say without. But personally I'd probably change the plastic to black (including pickguard) and add covers to the pickups. Ya know, the boring way
fromnabulax
I'm generally a no pick guard kind if guy, and even peel them off of most of my acoustics as well. The beauty of your 335 tells why. Guitars are gorgeous creatures, why muck 'me up with a hunk of plastic?
LPguitarman
I voted without, but the only negative is the screw holes.
zigzag
I like it without, but if you anchor your right hand, then you will scratch it up. If appearances concern you, and apparently they do, leaving it on will keep it pretty.
saturn
9 times out of 10, I'm a pickguard off guy. But in this case I like it on yours. The body is big enough to still show most of it's beauty and I think the guard adds a touch of class here.
Eades
Definitely without, I picked my 335 silverburst on the basis of it, didn't have a pick guard so it didn't have screw holes
jdgm
Without that particular pickguard...but depends on your playing style and whether you rest any part of the hand there, or are likely to nick that nice top with pick or nails......my ideas for a pickguard on this guitar would be tortoiseshell, black, transparent or a fancy wooden job..... rct
Without, I prefer all of them without but it just isn't always possible. Pickguards are like putting covers on yer tires while you drive to work. If the thing gets used, it gets beat either a little or a lot. If it doesn't get used, it doesn't need a pickguard. rct
Rabs
Yeah im a without guy too... Show that top as much as possible.. But then im also a player who doesn't play in a style where im going to scratch that area up anyway so pickguards are kinda useless to me in that way... And if the top is pretty id want to show it off.

skilsaw
I see salt and pepper on your table so it is the table you eat at. There is a computer mouse on the table so that is where your computer is. And,the table is the workbench on guitar wipe down day! That is the table of a bachelor at peace with himself. Oh yeah, the pickguard question. I brace my fingers on the pickguard so need it, But your guitar looks better without it. The question for me would be, "Do you play your guitar, or look at it?" duane v
That is a sweet 335. I usually like guards, but not on that one. Are the pups and guard stock or a mod? Only problem is if you take it off you have a holes where the screws were. I changed the tortoise shell guard on my BB King to black and it look much sharper IMO. Thanks partner .... The pups and guard are from the factory.... Which is partially what drew me to the instrument....
BigKahune
... Only problem is if you take it off you have a holes where the screws were. ... I just touch the screw heads with paint to match the finish and put the screws back in. You can easily take the paint back off if you need to. . Pin
It's unplayable without a pickguard.
Tim Plains
I think every Gibson looks better with it on.
pippy
I'm going to be the 'Difficult' person and say 'With' but not with that 'guard. It's waayyy too thick. I'd get a custom-made p'guard to the correct shape but from a sheet of '59 LP-guard-thick plastic with a straight-cut edge profile. Not 'historically accurate' of course but then; what is? I think it'd look absolutely superb so adorned and that's the end of the matter. Surely part of the point in owning such a 335 is that it was something which was NOT offered at the time but if they knew then what they know now?.... pip. Retired
If I can offer my 2c worth, I love pick guards and prefer them but it does look sexy without one. Only if it shows holes where you took it off, I'd leave it on!
stein
I'm a pickguard kind of guy. Easier to play. But unless you are going to just have the guitar to look at, then what matters is how it looks on YOU with or without. It may seem a little vain, but I think the decision is best made strapped on in front of a mirror. It's your guitar, so it should look good based on what it looks like with you playing it. capmaster
This top is too pretty to hide away. Therefore I voted without, but I also like Stein's idea to judge in front of a mirror.

merciful-evans
I have taken my pickguards off, and prefer the look. However (new-ish) nitro is so susceptible to even a light touch that it can show up where the hand rests etc. This is true for my 339. It has no pickguard as its a studio model and the finish is dull in the pickguard area. I'm sure it would buff up glossy again, but it is affected. So I have removed the guard from my Epi Casino Coupe (no nitro = no problem). My 2015 LP's removable pickguard is brilliant because I keep it on for practicing, and remove it when gigging. That is a great design feature!
mickeybo89
Im definitly in the "with" especially with the matching pickups. Looks classy
